Background

Within the UK, there are 7.4 million adults across the workforce who have not yet achieved a level 2 qualification. Funded by ESF, the Maths & English for the Employed programme will seek to support those who face barriers and disadvantages to progressing in skills and employment through the provision of basic skills qualifications.

Participant Eligibility

  • Must be employed for a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Must be aged 19 and over
  • Must have an identified Maths and/or English need below level 2

Employer Eligibility

All employers will be eligible to participate within the project, however to be eligible for the Employer Support incentive, employers must:

  • Employ less than 250 FTE employees
  • Satisfy State Aid and De Minimis regulations

The Provision

Maths & English for the Employed will deliver:

  • Matrix accredited Information, Advice & Guidance to employees and where applicable their employers
  • English and Maths qualifications at Award or Certificate level
  • A bespoke package of support including guidance and handbooks for employers and their employees
  • A maximum of 2 qualifications per learner such as:
    1 English and 1 Maths qualification
    2 English qualifications at different levels
    2 Maths qualifications at different levels

Employer Support Incentive

Where employers have less than 250 employees an additional incentive will be made to support their employees to participate or progress in employment. Totalling £800 per employee, these payments will be made in 2 phases:

  • £400 once the employee has completed 2 weeks on the programme
  • £400 once the employee has successfully completed their qualification(s)

Each eligible employer will be entitled to claim a support payment for up to 3 eligible employees participating on and completing the programme, providing a total maximum of £2,400. Additional credits for further training in the Workplace from our full range of Business & Management, IT Applications and Health & Safety Courses.
